Starting Mon., March 30, Seattle Public Utilities is making some major changes to the city’s trash collection system:
- All Seattle single-family households will begin food and yard waste collection unless they compost at home
- Most households will have new collection day
- Food and yard waste will now be collected every week rather than every other
- More stuff, including paper and plastic cups, plastic plant pots, foil and foil trays, and scrap metal, can go into your recycling
- More stuff, including meat, bones and shells, and dairy, can go into your yard waste carts
- More food and yard waste cart sizes to choose from
- No more glass recycling containers, since glass now goes in the same recycling container as everything else
- Electronics, used motor oil and bulky items (such as couches) can be collected through special services
