OTHELLO – The family of Danny Vega, as well as the Seattle Police Department Filipino Advisory Council and the Filipino Community of Seattle, has asked Seattle Police Department (SPD) to meet with the Rainier Valley community to address concerns about Vega’s homicide, criminal investigation process, crime prevention opportunities and answer other questions.
Vega – who owned Danny Vega’s Hair Salon – was robbed and brutally beaten by three young men at 7:45 pm on Nov. 15, as he walked home from work along the 4200 block of S. Othello Street. He died Sunday morning after being in a weeks-long coma at the hospital. The teen suspects are still on the loose.
Seattle mayor Mike McGinn says police are “fully investigating” the possibility that the popular salon owner was attacked because he is gay.
The community meeting will be held tonight, Wed., Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. at the Filipino Community Center (5740 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S.).

I hope everyone in the LGBT community is there in force to show our support for Danny!
Will mayor McCheese show up or does he have a pressing bike summit to attend?
It’ll be curious to see whether any council members show up.

Didn’t McSchwinn come here a week or so ago with no mention of Danny Vega?
Looks like the SPD will be releasing info on several suspects this afternoon. From Publicola
“Police have identified several people of interest in their investigation into the robbery and murder of Danny Vega. We’re told Seattle police will release surveillance photos and video this afternoon before the department meets with neighbors in South Seattle about the status of the case.”

Thank you for this and I hope the elected officials (the people with the power) do something to make this area safe and friendly for diverse people that are getting killed due to their chosen lifestyle. If this was in another area there would be much more press or public outcry like Capitol Hill.
I wish there had been more advance notice, rather than the day of – I would have liked to be there.
Concur – more advance notice would have been nice.
