Light rail service has resumed after a pickup truck was destroyed in a collision with a train earlier today near the Columbia City station.
The Seattle Fire Department says the driver escaped injury and exited the vehicle on his own.

I knew something was up when the No. 8 bus went by on Graham…
It takes a special kind of stupid to get hit by a train.
Just curious: Do these dumbasses have to pay for the damage to the train?
There’s a couple of officers on the night shift (3rd watch) who frequently reference “The Law Of Lugnuts”. The law dictates that he/she with the most lugnuts wins, and that the results of any collision is always predictable based on a count of the lugnuts associated with each body involved in the collision. It goes something like this:
Person vs. bicycle, bicycle wins;
Bicycle vs. motorcycle, motorcycle wins;
Motorcycle or bicycle vs. car, car wins;
Car vs. bus, bus wins;
Bus vs. 18-wheel truck, truck wins,
Anything vs. train, train wins…how do you top between 64 and 50,000 lugnuts?(depending on the train)
I think the Law Of Lugnuts deserves a place in scientific history next to Einstein’s Theory Of Relativity and Newton’s Law Of Motion.
See you on the streets (and not on the rails!)
SSC,
What about plane v train? Or to really mix things up how about train (with 737 fuselage on flatcar) v plane? Hope we never see either of these accidents!
All the best,
Tom T
Well in plane vs. train I think train still wins. The train still has lugnuts and sheer tonnage over the plane (we are excluding small communter trains). And this formluar is for ground collisions, not involving flight.
So the driver escaped the car before impact? I haven’t figured out how this went down.
Sad that since this accident, there’s been one person shot on Beacon Hill and two at Rainier and Garden St.
Uh Oh, better get MAACO.
@ #3 – Insurance pays but seeing how it’s Rainier Valley it’s 50/50 whether or not they even have insurance
@4 That, my friend, is awesome.
I wonder how many of these run ins occur out of driver desperation. Sit at a light crossing MLK a few times and you’ll soon know what I mean. Bring a book, it’ll take you a while to get through the intersection..
I watched an old lady w/ a cart just walk out in the middle of MLK. Made 4 cars screech to stop for her. Then she commenced to block the left lane because she couldn’t get her cart over the curb for the train tracks.
People are just narcissistic and dumb.
“People are just narcissistic and dumb”
I think it’s more narcissism. People just don’t give a sh*t about anyone else anymore. You see it in the way people drive, how people act in the grocery store, walking down the street. Basically, they don’t care if they hit you, bull your over or bump into you while they’re texting and walking down the sidewalk. You are an inconvenience to them.
