Today at 5 pm, Arts Gumbo – a 10-year-old performing arts series that serves up a mixture of diverse cultures, art forms, cuisine, ideas and issues – kicks off a new season at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center (3515 S. Alaska St) in Columbia City with an authentic Louisiana Creole Celebration hosted by the Northwest Zydeco Music and Dance Association.
The event will be emceed by storyteller (and occasional RVP contributor) Georgia McDade and Mary Lee Lykes, renowned local personality of Lykes to Dance, with live music, mardi gras parade and gumbo from King Creole Restaurant.
Tickets are $10/general, $7/students & seniors, $5/children 8-18 (7 & under are free) and $25 for families of up to 4 people. Tickets are available here or at the door.
Arts Gumbo 2009 Continues: Arts Gumbo 2009 continues through the end of the year with Asian Tales of Shadow and Light presented by Eth-Noh-Tec on Sat., Oct. 24, The Odunde Festival presented by Adefua Cultural Education Workshop on Fri., Nov. 6 through Sun., Nov. 8, and a Kwanza Celebration presented in partnership with The New School on Sat., Dec. 12.
