Summer Heat Wave

File0018

No one was injured this morning when a brush fire quickly spread and engulfed a home in Rainier Beach.

It was about 10:30 am when 911 calls started flooding in to dispatch and 17 units responded to Yukon Avenue South and Spear Place South right above the Rainier Beach light rail station at Martin Luther King Way and South Henderson Street.

Firefighters said the home was vacant, but neighbors on the scene said that homeless people had been squatting there.

No word yet on the amount of damage sustained.

“I love this place because they make it great for both kids and adults,” said Columbia City neighbor Connie Cox, who suggests bringing the kids to enjoy games and ice cream while the adults have some beer.

That’s what we’re saying!
