Sharon Stone

King County Superior Court has ruled that a notorious Rainier Beach drug house will be shuttered for one year, and that the current owners – Sharon L. Stone and John Bliss – must vacate the property by June 24 at 8 am, or face eviction:

The property shall be immediately closed, prohibiting its use for any purpose for a period of (1) one year. While the abatement order is in effect, the property shall remain in the custody and control of the Court. Defendants shall completely vacate, close, and board the property at 8433 55th Avenue South Seattle, Washington by 8 am on June 24, 2011, and thereafter said residence it to be immediately  sealed, closed, and posted according to Department of Planning and Development (DPD)  standards for vacant buildings. More.

The City of Seattle filed suit in March, saying the home had been the subject of at least 83 calls to 911 during the preceding 18 months, including excessive foot traffic, prostitution, vehicle prowls, burglaries, assaults, noise, and other crimes that occurred at all hours.

One month later, a police raid turned up cash and crack cocaine.

Neighbors in the tight-knit Pritchard Beach community – 120 of whom wrote a letter to the City Attorney begging for relief – are thrilled.

“We can’t wait to walk our kids to Pritchard Beach Park, for the constant stream of drug buyers and ‘Johns’ to end, to be a normal neighborhood again,” said block watch captain Neale Frothingham. “One person won’t be allowed to hold this neighborhood and community back.”

He said that the house was abated for one year back in 1992, but the community and the City quit before the job was finished.

“We are optimistic that City officials share our resolve, and that one home owner, or her heirs, won’t be allowed to go back to business as usual on June 25, 2012 when the one-year abatement is up, and detract from the quality of life of the entire Rainier Valley by sucking badly needed police and other resources away from the broader community.”

He added that the experience has brought the community closer together.

“This has taught us that everything is possible when we work together. Our best days are ahead. We are united as never before. We look forward to channeling our energy in a positive direction. Rainier Beach and the Rainier Valley are on the ascent.”

The Rainier Valley Post recently posted a story from seattlepi.com, about a 71-year old who is allegedly running a drug house in the South Seward Park neighborhood near Rainier Beach High School.

In the story, the owner of the home, Sharon Stone, tells reporter Levi Pulkkinen that the current civil suit by the City of Seattle, seeking to seize her home, as well as the criminal charges against her, “stem from a long-running grudge held by Seattle police.” The article went on to quote Stone directly, “’I raised my kids and my grandkids here. I don’t have nowhere to go.’”

Sharon Stone has somewhere to go. The State Penitentiary!

Police reports submitted to the Prosecutor indicate that they seized 22.5 grams of cocaine from Sharon’s bedroom! Those reports also indicate that undercover officers spoke with her on the phone when arranging to make drug purchases from the home and that in one case they recovered marked dollar bills from her after a drug purchase at the home.

The City of Seattle’s current lawsuit against Sharon Stone, was, in our view, initially brought reluctantly by the City Attorney. It was only after 120 of Sharon’s neighbors wrote a letter to Peter Holmes, that her activity was thoroughly investigated by his office and the suit was brought.

Once the matter was brought to his attention, his office worked very closely with the neighborhood and Seattle Police to gather the evidence necessary for the lawsuit. We could not ask for a better partner in this effort than Peter Holmes and his staff of attorneys.  Citizens initiated this and the police and City Attorney responded accordingly.

This neighborhood has provided dozen’s of statements, sworn under penalty of perjury, as evidence in the City’s lawsuit. So much for this being a vendetta against a helpless little old lady!

Finally, if drug charges are a vendetta to get Sharon, it has a lot of conspirators. Sharon was convicted in Snohomish County for dealing drugs out of motels. Everett area police, the Snohomish County Prosecutor, the Snohomish County Superior Court, and the State Court of Appeals that ruled against her when she appealed elements of her case, must be in on the vendetta too.

The facts simply don’t support the claim made by Sharon Stone. Did I also mention she has convictions for a weapons charge and perjury?

The whole Rainier Valley has an interest in this case. At times, there are as many as six police cars at Mrs. Stone’s home. When that happens, who responds to other 911 calls in the vast area south of I-90 between Lake Washington and the Duwamish River? All non-life threatening calls get stacked up in queue to wait until matters at the Stone house have been brought under control. The thief, seen by someone on North Beacon Hill, running down the street with their stuff, gets away.

The residents of South Seward Park and Rainier Beach have had enough. The rest of the Rainier Valley has had enough. After 40-years of criminal activity at her Rainier Valley home, its time for the City of Seattle to seize Sharon’s home.
