Hillman City Heart Hunt 2009
Hillman City’s soul searching has turned to a search for hearts as business owners organize a scavenger hunt focused on hearts to help draw attention to the district’s new slogan – The Heart of Rainier Valley.
“We spent a long time considering if we should let go of our previous catch phrase – The Village in the Valley. We decided on the new slogan because we want to emphasize the pride we have in Rainier Valley and our history as one of its founding communities,” says Hillman City Business Association (HBCA) President Denise Gloster.
The Hillman Heart Hunt will take place in the two weeks leading up to HCBA’s Third Annual Town Hall on Sat., Feb. 21, at Rainier Avenue Church (address) from noon to 3 p.m. Community volunteers will hide paper hearts around Hillman City the first week of February, and on Sat., Feb. 7, clues about where to find the hearts will be available right here at the Rainier Valley Post, as well as at participating neighborhood businesses.
“We hope that couples seeking a fun and romantic activity will take a stroll and look for hearts, and we expect parents and children will find it an exciting romp around the neighborhood,” added Denise.
Neighbors who find the hearts can bring them to the Town Hall meeting, where they’ll double as raffle tickets to trade for prizes donated by community businesses.
“This is a fun, casual way to build relationships and share ideas for keeping our neighborhood vital, strong and unified,” said Brian Lettich, HCBA’s vice president. “First everyone will enjoy lunch; then we’ll announce our Heritage Neighbor Awards for those helping make Hillman City a better place to live and work.”
