About 30 people celebrated the beginning of the holiday season outside the Citadel at MLK, Jr. Way and Othello on Monday night, where kids of all ages enjoyed hot cocoa, sweet treats, holiday cheer and one another as they counted down to the lighting of the crane at Othello Park.
The Exxel Pacific, Inc. construction team recently raised its project tower crane over The Station at Othello Park, a 420,000-square-foot mixed-use project that sits right between Othello Park and and the Othello light rail station. Photos/Don Pham, Northwest Vietnamese News

From Linh Thai:
Mike McGinn, Seattle’s mayor-elect wants to hear from folks in our city as he prepares to take office in January 2010. Mike ran a campaign that was a little different and he plans to run his transition into office and to serve as mayor in a way that is a little different than has been done before.
Mike has asked me and others throughout the city to reach out to our communities and to ask the following questions:
- How can Mike build the strongest possible team to achieve the policy objectives and values set forth during the campaign?
- How can we build public trust and confidence in the new administration?
- What do you view as the new administration biggest challenge – and what should we do first out of the gate?
You may be asked by more than one person. If you have not already considered these questions, could you please respond below. We will be collecting all of the responses and will be sharing them with Mike on November 23rd.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
UPDATE: Join Linh and other community members on Fri., Nov. 20, at 6 pm at Holly Park Community Church (4308 S. Othello St) to share your views, voices, and visions for South Seattle.

Seattle Times (RVP news partner)
The latest vote count showed McGinn 4,939 votes ahead of Mallahan. He more than doubled his lead from Friday, when he led by more than 2,384 votes.
At one point last week, 462 votes separated the two candidates and a recount seemed likely.
As Mallahan read his statement to the media at his Eastlake campaign office, McGinn spoke to a packed room at his headquarters in Southeast Seattle. Supporters cheered “We like Mike!” as McGinn entered to make a statement. More.

A man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Monday evening when police say he made an illegal turn, and a light rail train plowed into the vehicle he was driving.

It was shortly after 5pm when witnesses began calling 911 to report the accident that occurred when the car’s driver – headed south on Martin Luther King Jr. Way – attempted a left turn against the red light onto South Myrtle.

The driver of the Chrysler was cited for a red light violation.

“People need to follow the rules,” said Sound Transit spokesman Bruce Gray. “We’re just glad it wasn’t more serious.”

But Othello neighbor and community activist Patricia Paschal says Sound Transit should never have gone ahead with the street-level option for the light rail train line which is scheduled to open in just 19 days.

“They knew it was dangerous and they did it anyway,” she said at the scene of this evening’s crash. “This is exactly why Save Our Valley did not want it like this. I think we can expect much worse than this. I’m just glad no one was seriously injured.”
