The rhythms and sounds of Columbia City’s monthly musical event are starting again as BeatWalk launches its 16th season on Fri., May 6, from 7 to 10 pm.
BeatWalk is a regional event in Columbia City’s Historic District hosted by local businesses and restaurants focused in highlighting the diversity of the Rainier Valley community through music and entertainment.
Some of the local musicians and bands included in BeatWalk’s first musical lineup of the year:
- Jim O’Halloran Quartet, a jazz inspired band by Cuban Yoruba
- Eduardo Mendonca Duo featuring Brazilian jazz, samba, and bossa nova sounds as well as original pieces
- Sol Afrique offers a rhythmic menu from Cameroon, South Africa, Cuba and the Caribbean
- Two Scoops’ sounds are like a blend of Jerry Lee Lewis and Randy Newman’s boogie-woogie dance music
- AMA Trio is a Latin-American, Afro-Sephardic, Eastern European gypsy circus chamber music band
Cost is $7 entrance fee to all venues for adults; children 14 & under are free.
Venues are along and near Rainier Avenue South between South Angeline Street and South Hudson Street, and include Awash Ethiopian Restaurant, The Bookworm Book Exchange, Chelsea Deli, Columbia City Fitness Center, Columbia City Gallery, Community Acupuncture Project of Columbia City, Full Tilt Ice Cream, Empire Espresso, Salon Adidez, Starbucks, State Farm Insurance and Island Soul Restaurant.
