
Seattle Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the United States of America Netball Association and the Emerald City Netball Club, hosted the 2009 National Netball Championships this weekend at Rainier Community Center.

The tournament featured club team competition on Saturday, and Association competition and Open Elite Competition, which showcases national and international teams’ skills and expertise, on Sunday.

Netball is a popular and growing sport played by more than 20 million people in 70 countries worldwide, according to the International Federation of Netball Associations. Adapted from the game of basketball only a few years after James Naismith invented it, netball is a team sport based on running, jumping, throwing and catching.

The championships feature dazzling displays of speed and skill by players from all over the country.
