From the Stranger:

Monroe Ezell is a marked man. At 21, Ezell is one of the ranking members of the Hoover Criminals 74, a South Seattle gang affiliated with the Los Angeles–based Crips. Members of the Valley Hood Piru (a Blood-affiliated gang), and other Seattle gangs, want him dead.

Ezell has a rap sheet with charges for robbery and drug possession, and law-enforcement sources say he is a suspect in a handful of drive-by shootings around Seattle. According to Seattle Police Department search-warrant records, Ezell was also a suspect in the murder of 15-year-old Quincy Coleman—a known Deuce-8 gang member with apparent ties to the Valley Hood Piru—who was gunned down outside of Garfield High School on Halloween 2008.

Last month, Ezell was nearly killed outside of the King County Youth Service Center, presumably by a rival gang member, possibly in retaliation for Coleman’s murder. No arrests have been made. More.

I’m weeping big fat crocodile tears for this child murderer.

I have to agree.

Notice that he is completely unrepentant for the barbaric acts he’s committed against other people for no reason other than the high he get’s from committing violence against people, monetary gain, and an increased “rep” within the gangster community.

Thinking only of yourself, and “waking up”, as he calls it, are two completely different things. Redemption does not begin until you first answer for the things that you have done.

See you (and him) on the streets! :-)

“The man who shot him is being “hunted,” Ezell says, although he claims he doesn’t want to see any harm come to his assailant. He brags, “A lot of people are going to get killed over me getting shot.”

Not a good closing line for a story about turning one’s life around, unless it is a complete 360. (is this the son of the Ezell’s chicken guy?)

I agree 100% with you Mark.

You don’t say “I want to stop the killings” and then “A lot of people are going to get killed”.

I’m surprised he even agreed to do this interview with whole “stop snitchin” motto that’s going on.

Any one of these kids could be a engineer, a plumber, a physicist, a mechanic, an architect, a dentist, a doctor, a home builder…it is a tragedy that the only present meaning to their earthly existence is selling drugs and maintaining feuds that kill and maim more members of their community, when their intial God-given potential is so incredibly great.

He didn’t kill Quincy.

What’s the purpose of creating hate to resolve hate? That’s like Bush’s plan to declare war to create peace. Kind of like fornicating to arrive at virginity. Where have I seen this before?

touche, deja vu.

Its too late for Ezell and many others. We need to work with the ones worth saving. This guy and the other gangbangers are sociopaths and lack empathy. They are violent narcissists with no skills. Why bother pretending they can be helped. Lets move on……………..

“… are sociopaths and lack empathy. They are violent narcissists …”

Seems like a description of many politicians.

I don’t think it is up to us, you or me, to decide at any point in time that it is too late for someone. This may not be the person you hope to spend your volunteer time on, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late for him. It’s never too late, period. And it is a decision that anyone can make when the time is right for them. Sticking to the decision, remembering you made the choice, and acting differently moment by moment, that is the challenge.

“Sticking to the decision, remembering you made the choice, and acting differently moment by moment, that is the challenge.”

So true. Well said, Denise.

I believe what MR. Ezell meant when he said “A lot of people are going to get killed” if he gets killed, is just that! Killing him is not going to stop the violence – it only keeps it going….. I am not giving him a pass. He has hurt alot of people in our community and something has to be done about the growing menaces in our society – what form of REHABILITATION does our community have to offer young people like this. After being shot I would think twice and want to get out of that life as well. Who wouldn’t? Besides he does have children to live for now – hopefully he will live to see them grow up. Again not excusing his behavior….

There sure should be a way to offer assistance and help Mr. Ezell in his life change. Maybe Justice Works, might have some ideas or connections; the Freedom Project too, some ideas or connections that might provide help or advise.

At the end of the day, Mr. Ezell will have to watch his back for the rest of his life. We reap what we sew. And he is reapping the consequences of this life HE chose to live.
