Man sentenced for role in brutal Beacon Hill attack

Justin Phillips, 20, one of three Seattle men charged with assault and attempted robbery in connection with a June 18 attack that left a man with severe brain injuries, was sentenced today to 10 years in prison.

Phillips, Kenneth Fisher, 19, and Jaynus Speed, 22, were among a group of men who attacked Dawit Alemu while the man was walking in the 1900 block of 13th Avenue South, according to court charging papers. More.

Prosecutor delays death penalty decision in South Park slaying

King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg has pushed back his decision on whether to seek the death penalty in the Isaiah Kalebu / South Park slaying case until early next year.

Kalebu, 24, is accused of creeping into a South Park home on July 19 and attacking two women, leaving one dead and the other seriously wounded. He is charged with aggravated first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree rape and first-degree burglary in connection with the slaying of Teresa Butz, 39, and the attack on her 36-year-old partner. Second-degree murder charge filed in Mount Baker slaying

A 29-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a 31-year-old man in Seattle’s Mount Baker neighborhood last Thursday has been charged with second-degree murder.

Curtiss Ware Jr. shot Melvin Evans after they argued over money, according to charging papers filed Tuesday in King County Superior Court. A man who witnessed the shooting told Seattle police that Evans had called Ware just before 3 a.m. and they soon met up on a sidewalk near South Byron Street and Rainer Avenue South. More.

Rainier Beach man who allegedly shot father charged with second-degree murder

Tai Duc Thong, the 29-year-old man arrested early Sunday in connection with the fatal shooting of his father, was charged today with second-degree murder.

Thong is being held at the King County Jail in lieu of $1 million. More.

Seward Park man pleads guilty in child-porn case

William Hoke, 38, of Seattle, pleaded guilty today to possession of child pornography in U.S. District Court in Seattle, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Hoke was arrested in April as part of an ongoing investigation into individuals using password protected Web sites to post and trade child pornography. Hoke was a 13-year employee of the Seattle Children’s Theatre. More.

Rainier Valley cold-case suspect charged with first-degree murder

Daryl Hart, the 50-year-old man arrested Friday in connection with the August 1984 slaying of a former neighbor, was charged today with first-degree murder. Hart is being held in the King County Jail on $1 million bail.

Nora Gracey, 70, a widow and retired seamstress, was found slain on Aug. 12, 1984, in her Rainier Valley home. The case went cold in the mid-1980s, but technological advances in comparing DNA samples enabled police to tie the 50-year-old suspect to the crime, said Seattle police Detective Mike Ciesynski. Seattle man sentenced for stabbing death of Beacon Hill wife

A Seattle man who killed his estranged wife with a barbecue fork in front of two of her five children last year was sentenced Thursday to 23 ½ years in prison.

Juan Carlos Bonilla, 34, showed little emotion during the four-hour sentencing hearing in King County Superior Court, but sobs erupted when his 16-year-old stepdaughter and his sister-in-law testified about victim Debra Bonilla, 38. A video was shown that included footage of one of the couple’s two children who witnessed the April 18, 2008, attack in Debra Bonilla’s South Seattle backyard. More.
