After barely one year in Seattle working on behalf of south-end kids, Powerful Schools executive director Tre’ Maxie has been named one of the Puget Sound Business Journal’s 2009 40 Under 40 honorees.
“Puget Sound Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 program celebrates its 11th year as the region’s premier award program that spotlights the top business leaders under the age of 40 who excel in their industry and show dynamic leadership,” said Emory Thomas Jr., publisher of the Business Journal.
Diane Moore, Chair, Powerful Schools’ Board of Directors, describes Maxie as an energetic leader who brings both focus and passion to his role at this 18-year old non-profit, based in southeast Seattle.
“The Powerful Schools Board and staff are thrilled to see Tre’ recognized among this group of dynamic leaders in our region,” she said. “He has brought operational excellence and visionary insight to Powerful Schools, strengthening the organization and charting a path for even greater support of children’s success both in and out of school.”
When we asked him what he thought of the honor, Tre’ said, “Helping children achieve their full potential in life is my passion. To be recognized by the Puget Sound Journal’s 40 Under 40 is confirmation that Powerful Schools is making a significant contribution towards opening the door to endless possibilities in the lives of our children.”
Founded in 1991, Powerful Schools is a nationally recognized non-profit organization, dedicated to reducing the achievement gap by partnering with public schools to provide literacy, arts, afterschool, and youth leadership development programs.
Celebrate with Tre’: An evening award program will be held on Tues., Sept. 15. It is open to the public and tickets are available here.
