toyboatDear Readers,

News gathering is expensive, and we need your help!

If you’d like to see the Rainier Valley Post continue to thrive and grow and provide you with unprecedented coverage of Seattle’s most diverse community, won’t you please take a moment to drop us a tip?

No amount is too small. Every little bit helps. And we sure do appreciate your support.

Use the handy PayPal DONATE button in the right sidebar or snail mail your donation to RVP; POB 18334, Seattle, WA 98118.

Thanks, neighbors!

I have a better idea. Why don’t you ask everyone over at the Columbia City Wiki to donate to the Rainier Valley’s only real online newspaper worth reading?

Keep up the good work. In all honesty, I think you would do well to represent at the next Columbia City Farmer’s Market (pass out leaflets) and also the next BeatWalk. Once people find you and read you, and once they realize you invite intelligent conversation, they will come…

@’dem beans done bust my jeans-

That’s funny. Actually I think it would be AWESOME to host like an RVP frequent fliers table. We could meet guest column writers and have…dare I say it…face to face discourse with others…

yikes!

But incidentally, I don’t think that getting readers is the issue. You are correct that RVP is Internet crack. Plenty of people are using, but are they ponying up for their own stuff? hmmm

Come on folks get off www welfare and pay to play!!! Discontinue your membership to all gaming and porn websites, if you must…

That not your problem?

Maybe getting the pay-pal account is toooo…haaaard…. (insert whiny voice)

Maybe $$ is tight. Just discontinue your Seattle Times subscription. You’re just wasting a tree’s second incarnation by letting that Sunday edition sit around on your kitchen table until Thursday when you recycle it before trash day. Or better yet, swear off your mochacrappochino habit, switch to better-for-you and cheaper green tea.

Do whatcha gotta do. And if that means risking being without the RVP and being left with whatever sources of info would remain for the southernmost of us…

good luck with that…

Mos Def, I am the pony express.

Could be interesting.

I put in $20, and will at the next pledge drive. Member read differently.

To readers: skip a cup of coffee once a week, put your pennies in the piggie bank and do your part by paying for this valuable service.

I would really like to donate, but I’m financially challenged at this time. I enjoy RVP very much and the pangs of guilt I’m feeling about not being able to give bother me. When I am more stable money-wise, I will definitely send some dosh.

When readers are plentiful but don’t pay up, you have to rely on advertisers. Otherwise your paper will become devoted to fund drives which takes away from readership.

Local businesses are hurting and need inexpensive advertising to a local audience — and I see you already offer this service. IMO what you need to do is increase demand for your online ad space.

Check your server logs and sell ads based on numbers of page visits (if you’re not already doing this). Ad impressions and click-thru rates are the accepted methods for determing online ad prices. But you know this?

Controversial news also increases readership (I’m sure you realize this), but can also turn off some advertisers, so you have to walk that fine line.

So, as readers, we need to send more advertisers your way. This is another type of “donation.” Giving some coin also helps, but I suspect the long-term survival of RVP will rely heavily on ad revenue — which is generally the case for most community online news sites (that are worth reading).

To finish my previous thought… maybe setup a referral bonus program with readers who sent advertisers your way. That’s just one idea.

Some other ideas previously discussed on the CC Wiki –

@Baked Beans: Look for us painting faces at the CCFM Kids Tent this Wednesday!

@ahow: You people don’t pay me enough for that sh#$. Just kidding. I think we are way overdue for an RVP meet-up. Look for info to come…

@MarkB: You ARE the Pony Express and we are endlessly grateful for your continued support!!

@Sean Kelley: So true that members read differently. Also want to say that we’re grateful not just for your financial support, but moral as well. “The RVP is better than that” rings regularly in the ears of your humble editor who strives every day to meet the bar that YOU helped establish. Thank you!

@Edna: I think we can all relate right now. No worries. You’re always welcome here.

@John Lonneve: What you said! :-) Please patronize our wonderful, generous sponsors featured in the right sidebar and detailed here: http://www.rainiervalleypost.com/?cat=22

@Mark B: You’re awesome.
