Show Your Support for Local Businesses: Vote Your Faves in Small Business Award Program

Gwendolyn-ChamblissMayor Greg Nickels announced last week that the city of Seattle is now accepting nominations for the 2009 Mayor’s Small Business Awards:

The 2009 Awards will honor the diversity and excellence of Seattle’s small businesses, and their contribution to the city’s economic vitality and quality of life.

Ten winners will be selected on the basis of excellence in management, entrepreneurial spirit, customer service, and community involvement.

“With innovative products and services, small businesses are vital to our community – creating good jobs and adding character to our neighborhoods,” said Nickels. “I hope you’ll nominate your favorite local business and tell us how it is making life better in Seattle.”

Anyone can nominate a small business. Click here to download a nomination form. The deadline for submitting nomination forms is Wed., Sept. 2. Winners will be announced by the mayor at an awards ceremony at Town Hall on Oct. 13, 2009.

Last year, Rainier Valley business owner Gwendolyn Chambliss won the 2008 Mayor’s Small Business Award for launching the GP Institute of Cosmetology in Mt. Baker in 2005. Click here to see Gwendolyn and her business featured on the Seattle Channel.
