From Captain David Emerick, South Precinct Commander & Mark Solomon, Crime Prevention Coordinator:
The 2010 National Night Out Against Crime will be Tues., Aug. 3. “Night Out” is a national Crime Prevention event. It is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, increase neighborhood support in anti-crime efforts, and unite our communities. It is a great chance to reconnect with neighbors and share information with each other while learning more about crime prevention.
This year we have a couple of exciting changes to announce. First, registration for Night Out is now open. The registration process is now easier than ever. We’re using the City Wide Events Calendar; you can save the event date into your own personal calendar, make changes later, as well as forward the event to your friends. Go here and click on the Night Out box to sign up for this summertime Block Party as we celebrate Crime Free Neighborhoods. On our Night Out web page, you will find links to background information about Night Out, Frequently Asked Questions, materials for download and a link to register your group for an event.
We have also created a presence for Night Out on Facebook. This will allow you to stay up to date with information before the event, receive crime prevention tips, share your ideas with others, and upload photos.
We had nearly 1,200 blocks participate in Night Out events last year, and we are hoping to see even more neighborhoods participate this year. If you’ve never had a Night Out event in your neighborhood before, this is the perfect year to get involved! It’s fun, it’s free and this is the one night you can close down your non-arterial street at no cost.
Please share this e-mail with your distribution lists, and thank you for all you do for your neighborhoods.
Have a great Night Out this year!
