Registration for Goodwill’s Job Training & Education Classes Begins July 27

From July 27-31, Goodwill’s Job Training and Education Center (1400 S. Lane St.), will register people for free classes in the eight-week session that runs from Aug. 10 through Oct. 1. These courses teach those with significant barriers to employment valuable skills to find and keep jobs.

Offered again this sesssion is the National External Diploma Program (NEDP), which enables mature, self-directed adults 21 and older to earn a high school diploma. Students demonstrate skills at the high-school level by applying the knowledge they have learned through career, family and community experiences.

Classes fill up fast, and sign-up is on a first-come, first-served basis, so interested people are advised to come early in the registration period.

The following Adult Basic Education classes will also be offered:

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL):  A variety of coursed are offered to help students learn English
  • Basic Computer Fundamentals
  • Basic Reading/Writing Classes: These courses help improve reading and writing skills
  • Mathematics: Basic and intermediate levels of math classes

During the registration period, students can sign up for the 10-week Retail and Customer Service Training Program that will be offered again in October. This program includes two weeks of on-the-job training and teaches participants how to use computers in a retail environment, maintain the appearance of a store and merchandise products. “Soft skills”, such as proper workplace behavior and effective communication, will also be taught. The program meets Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Oct. 19.
