Rainier Valley Steps Up to Support Kids Making Good Choices; Thank You, Readers!

Last week we learned that, as a result of the economic meltdown, 10 local Little League teams right here in the Rainier Valley have lost their longtime sponsors and are in danger of being unable to play this season.

“We really want to keep baseball alive in the Rainier Valley,” said Rainier District Little League (RDLL) Sponsorship Coordinator Ann Harris. “The sponsors help so much, including kids that cannot afford the registration fee, uniforms, bats, balls, umpire equipment, first-aid supplies and field rentals.”

RDLL serves kids are from 6 to 18 years old, and with gangbangers trolling our schools daily for new recruits, flashing their fancy clothes, cars and money, and the rest of us in a tizzy over this epidemic of youth violence, it seems so wrong to tell these kids who are trying to make good choices, “Sorry, but we can’t rustle up a measly $500 for you to play baseball.”

So we turned to our readers, and as usual, you came through in a flash.

Today, thanks to the generous donors listed below, the Rainier Valley can boast its first community sponsored Little League team.

Now, who’s going to step up and support the rest of our community’s Little League teams?
