The Rainier Beach Community Empowerment Coalition (RBCEC), an alliance of residents and neighborhood organizations, is planning the seventh annual Back 2School Bash at Beer Sheva Park (8800 Seward Park Ave. S.) for Sat., Aug. 29, from noon to 4 p.m.
Organizers say the purpose of the event is to motivate students who reside in and attend school in Rainier Beach.
“A neighborhood with four schools prepared to meet its educational needs, needs to be actively involved with inspiring its young people to make the most of the opportunities available and achieve academically,” said RBCEC volunteer Gregory Davis.
Attendees can look forward to free back packs, youth activities, hot dogs and information from more than 30 service providers, as well as the announcement of the 2009 Rainier Beach Award winners.
