Political Priorities: Councilmembers Come Down South to Talk About TV

Seattle City Council President Richard Conlin and Councilmember Bruce Harrell met with community groups Friday at low income apartments in the Rainier Valley to talk about the upcoming transition to all digital television.

The federal government’s latest deadline for broadcasters to make the switch to all-digital is June 12. After that, anyone using an analog television with an antenna will need a converter box. The Seattle City Council has been working to get information to seniors, immigrants and low-income households to help get them prepared.

On Friday, Conlin and Harrell, chair of the Energy, Technology and Commerce committee, joined public interest groups in getting the word out to residents at the Seattle Housing Authority’s Center Park apartments at 2121 26th Avenue South in the Rainier Valley. Read more.

Say what you will, but to a lot of people – especially older people, shut-ins, and the unemployable – TV is a top priority.

Yes, but so are a lot of other things that our elected officials are ignoring.
