Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse than a 10-year old getting shot in broad daylight on a busy street corner,  it turns out he shot himself while trying to rob another kid.

According to police, the victim in the case is the 17-year old boy – originally detained for questioning – who was confronted and attacked by a group of boys, ages  12, 14 and 15, including the 10-year old originally thought to be the victim, while riding a Metro bus:

The victim in this case was the juvenile male, 17 , officers observed running down Rainier with the backpack.

While on the bus, the group of juveniles confronted the 17-year old and demanded to know where he was from. The 10-year old told him to empty his pockets, causing the victim to believe the group was going to rob him.

The group surrounded the victim on the bus. The victim told detectives that the 10-year old took off a backpack he was wearing. The 10-year old then unzipped the backpack and reached inside as if to retrieve something.

The victim stated that he feared the suspect was reaching for a gun, so he grabbed him in a “bear hug” type hold, to prevent him from grabbing a possible gun. This effectively pinned the backpack between the suspect and the victim. The suspect still had his hand inside the backpack. At some point during the struggle a shot was fired from inside the backpack.

The victim stated at first he believed he had been shot, then quickly realized that the 10-year old had been shot in the arm. Fearing that others in the group might reach in a grab the gun, the victim grabbed the backpack and got off the bus. He was assaulted several times by the group as he was leaving the bus, but able to break away from them and run across South Henderson Street where the officers observed him and took him into custody.

The victim was interviewed and released after being interviewed by detectives. The 10-year old suspect was admitted to Harborview Medical Center. After he is medically released, he will be charged with Investigation of Robbery and a weapons violation.

So, what were the ‘Reproducers’ (aka. parents) doing?

This arrest also helped solve the string of gold necklace street robberies.

Chances are he’ll be dead by 13-14 and that is a shame but you reap what you sow.WTF? 10 year olds doing armed robberies on Metro. For the city’s sake I hope it doesn’t go national, because nothing spells tourist dollars like a city that is more worried about catering to drunks than the safety of it’s citizens

Go on his website. The first huge message you see is, “Walk, Bike, Ride”. I’m sorry I didn’t know I was voting for Lance Armstrong when I voted McGinn for mayor.

Do we blame the schools for the fact that this kid can’t even use a gun properly?

All 4 of them should be locked up for attempted robbery (can you have attempted armed robbery) unlawful possession of a firearm, maybe throw in attempted manslaughter and hey, you get 6 weeks.

Walk, bike, ride my ass.
Lock and load, rinse and repeat.

McGinn is a UN lapdog. Both candidates were, actually. UN is controlled by the largest financial interests on the planet.

Wait, are you trying to link this robbery attempt and shooting to the United Nations?
What does the UN have to do with this, or really anything that the mayor is doing in South Seattle? I’m curious, because this is the first I’ve heard of the link that the mayor has to the UN.

@RBPatrick
Ben is referring to a theory that UN policy is driving urban development plans in the US. Google it.

@ Carol, Ben,
So far I googled “UN urban policy seattle” and “UN policy is driving urban development plans in the US.” I found links that describe initiatives to improve urban planning with a goal that seems to be to improve life for people who live in cities. That sounds very loosely defined but generally a good thing.
This doesn’t seem all that nefarious to me. Is there some possibility that in the future, the corner of Rainer and Henderson will be patrolled by troops with those distinctive blue helmets? I mean, we can’t even keep guns out of the hands of 10 year olds or get our potholes filled!
Is the UN really on it’s way?
