The community is invited to attend a public hearing regarding Summer Streets 2009 on Thur., Feb. 26, from 7 to 9 pm at Parks Building (100 Dexter Avenue North in Denny Park).
Parks and Recreation is proposing changes in access to open streets to pedestrians and bicyclists, with necessary local access for emergency, service, resident and disability-permit vehicles:
- Seward Park Upper Loop Road, “Walking Wednesdays” 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., May – September.
- Lake Washington Boulevard South, even-numbered weekend days (replacing traditional Bicycle Saturday/Sunday), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., May – September (except during the end of July and start of August for SeaFair), Mt. Baker Beach to the entrance to Seward Park; Seward Park to remain open.

The proposed plan for Lake Washington Boulevard would actually make every Sunday (with the seafair exceptions) bike Sunday. I love it. No more guessing which day it will be car free.
Please either make it Saturday or Sunday (with the exception of Seafair week) and leave it that way, but not both days. No higher learning needed. Also no weekday closures.
Bogota Colombia closes major roads to motor vehicles on Sundays. Business really like it because families come out and treat it like a parade and picnic.
But Frank has a good point- one set day each weekend, not the even numbered day, will be best.
I bike all the time. What do other non-riders think?
FYI: Lake Washington Blvd was built for bicycle at the turn of the last century.
