Cutting a cherry tree down today. It is good wood! what do I do with it?
Better call the people in Columbia City, Mr. Ames and SPD to make sure you do not get arrested or fined, or have to wait for the tree huggers to get out of the tree. If you manage to get it cut down before anyone shows up, of course you know they won’t be coming unless you live very close to one of the more affluent areas of SE… anyway as I was saying…. if you manage to get it down, I’ve heard that cherry would is great to throw on the bbq!
I mean cherry wood!
i’ve been wondering what the SW corner of Othello & MLK is going to be. i thought the plans were for a park/community garden…but those plans seem to have disappeared from the Othello Partners website.
check out my Mt. Baker-based culinary blog- there are suggestions for cooking with apple and cherry wood, as well as general articles pertaining to cooking and eating around Mt. Baker and beyond. http://www.saltyseattle.com
I just started dating a homeless girl, It’s great I can drop her off anywhere!
You might google wood workers/carvers in Seattle. If the wood is in good shape (not wormy or diseased) they might be willing to pay you something for it.
I would love it if RVP would post a snippet of a story and provide a link for more “after the jump” rather than posting the whole story. I often look at RVP on my phone and to scroll down pages and pages (tree story for example) is a pain. Just a thought.
Imagine a rotary phone
MarkB-
What’s that?
I had the guy come out and cut that cherry tree down, if anyone needs a recommendation for a tree cutting down person, his name is Brian Zderic, 425-260-3487. He was on time, fast, efficient, and had excellent control of the tree at all times. He took the whole thing away and the price was great too. (So I don’t need anyone to come get my wood)
ahow
It’s the one we had like back in 32, you know stick your finger in and turn the dial (no texting)
MarkB
Oh, I thought a “rotary phone” was going to be like spinnin’ rims or something.
No seriously I thought those were just something you bought to hit your husband over the head with.
I actually use my cast iron for chicken.
haha
We still have a “vintage” 1970s Snoopy and Woodstock rotary phone in our basement (great during power outages). At a sleepover my daughter had when she was eight, EVERY single girl had to “phone home” using the rotary dial. They ooohed and ahhed as the dial spun around—very funny!
@SolvayGirl: OMG, that’s hilarious!

ILLEGAL SALES AT GUN SHOWS
October 7 – Announcement of undercover investigation of illegal sales at gun shows.
The City of New York launched an undercover investigation to expose how a dangerous loophole allows guns to get into the hands of criminals.
Seems if the guys selling them are doing so illegally and to people who intend them for illegal use, then the guns are already in the hands of criminals… doesn’t it? I believe a loophole constitutes an unintended consequence. What do you think?
Funny, Mark B, it just struck me how painful texting would be on a rotary phone. Imagine it! As it is, texting on my non-qwerty, dumb phone is so frustrating that I often want to pull out my own eye.
Denise! We agree on something!
SSC — what?
)
SSC — you riden’ the pavements? The gun laws?
What about the gun laws?
Denise,
I agree completely with you that clearly the guns were already in the hands of criminals if they were in the hands of someone who intended to sell them to criminals, as that act in itself is a crime!
That reminds me: a lot more of our SE Seattle neighbors are packing heat (legally, that is) than I think most folks realize. It’s surprising to me sometimes as I contact people who have called 911 for various problems and the first thing they tell me is when we meet is, “I just want to let you know, I am carrying a gun.” (by the way, that is always the smart thing to do…you don’t want me to find that out by surprise)
As a precaution, I take posession of the weapon temporarily during our contact. This isn’t just for my safety, but for the citizen’s safety as well, as we don’t want any misunderstandings when another officer shows up to the scene later, and mistakenly perceives me to be in danger of being shot. The funny thing I notice is that when it’s time to return the firearm to it’s rightful owner, I almost always get requested to return it out-of-site of people on the streets or nearby, because most of you apperently don’t want you neighbors knowing you are packing. And that’s fine, I understand that desire.
From a cop’s-eye-perspective, I don’t have a problem with it. We are in a neighborhood that is disproportionally affected by crime, and violent crime, when compared to it’s population. I have been one of the responding officers to multiple shootings where a legally packing citizen shot someone, and everytime (just in my experience) the shooting was a justified self-defense. And for myself, I am unaware of an incident of a legally armed citizen shooting a police officer (I’m sure if I researched real hard I could find one somewhere…but you get my point).
I could go on-and-on into the racist (specifically anti-black and anti-hispanic) history of gun control laws, but I try not to put up posts that will put people to sleep. :-p
See you on the streets!
…and yes, I’ve been known to ride the pavement.
Tracker trucks killed Bennet trucks.
Pavement has never recovered.
Skinny trucks & fat wheels = Truth.
IMHO.
I fergot you people never rode skateboards.
Forget my last post, puh-lease.
I had the Bowman concave with Independent trucks when I was a kid.
Seems Independent is still the king.
For me a Fiberflex deck and Bennet trucks (skinny, not Pro), with a riser, was all I needed to survive. Or an oak deck, with cutouts.
Saw a guy with a Sims hat on, and he looked at me like I was some creature from Hell when I asked him about his hat.
He had never heard of skateboards before.
I bought a board when I got out of the Air Force, at Zumiez.
Rode it once, with disaterous results, at the Des Moines park.
Small, hard wheels were just ariving when I was getting out of the game; but they are the spawn of Satan. Not like the large, soft, grippy wheels of my youth. Sidewalks!
Yea, the Sims boards came with the evil little wheels when I was younger, didn’t like them.
Sims: Pure Juice
Have you seen the film by Stacy Peralta?
Brings me back to the days; drainage ditches.
I used to travel around & participate in competitions.
Slalom. Free-style. Downhill.
Dogtown and Z-boys, good s@#t
I think they were trying to bring forth the eternal struggle of man against man. Man against nature. Man against concrete.
Good strawberries, anyway.
