For some reason I thought I would wake up to a story of a 7 year old car thief.
I see 3 people voted yes that our officers should be babysittting drunks in Belltown. Strange.
It’s a disgrace that our mayor has all the time in the world to go on and on about bikes but not a second to say anything about a 10 year armed robber on a bus. Talk about social injustice.
I still want to know if a new bar/pub is going in on RAS just North of Orcas next to Eymans Pizza….anyone know what’s up with that space? All windows still covered with paper but the liquor application is now gone.
Everyone in the rv should bombard his office. (206) 684-4000
When we voted earlier this year for King County Conservation District supervisor, I was told at the polling place one lady alone was going to transport the ballots via car to the elections site. I met a long time poll worker last month whom told me that the last election she worked, there were ballots from the previous election at the bottom of the boxes (never counted).
Upon dropping off my ballot this year at the elections site on Marginal Way, I figured I would look at the process of “public vote counting”. I was the first person to have asked to see our votes in the process; the elections department made time for me to have a personal and thorough tour. Question to keep in mind as you read; does this vote counting process jeopardize the security of an honest vote count in any way?
Ballots are brought in at 5am via postal service and received by two staff at the truck delivery door (either seasonal or full time election staff), and in the thousands, are wheeled through the halls to a room where machines first analyze the envelopes for signatures. Note: should there not be a county sheriff or other sworn-in law enforcement officer to oversee the receipt of the ballots (like it is done in many other states)?
The technology used to count the ballots is programmed by election staff technician(s). The ballots, in one process, are put in a machine which reads them through a computer program to tally the number of votes.
Counting the ballots is supposed to be public and putting a paper in a machine which tabulates the count on a computer program is Not Counting the Ballots in Public, it is just scanning them in public. If you need a worse case scenario, just think of the computerized gambling slot machine.
We all believe that we have an honest system, yet it is a “system” and we should take necessary precautions to protect the integrity of the vote that was cast. You can count the vote but is the choice selected on the ballot being accurately counted?
Interestingly, the elections department did say they are the leaders in the system of the vote counting process in this nation. 2010.
I encourage you to check this out http://www.blackboxvoting.org
One last comment, I have a contact up in Snohomish county whom said on election day (8/17/2010) that there were approximately 1000 ballots mailed out late and received by voters 8/17/2010.
I feel dumb because I voted for him. The only reason I did was because Joe Mallahan said, “We gave phones to poor people”.
We gotta make some noise. Writing letters is great, but the only way to get the higher ups to take heed and notice is to start banging some pots and pans. I would love to start something, anything because right now, we’re sinking in the water. Waiting on our city to do something is waste of time and effort.
“I feel dumb because I voted for him. The only reason I did was because Joe Mallahan said, “We gave phones to poor people”.”
Which so far is better than what we got.
FYI: Tonya Mosely from KING5 is on her way over to chat with your humble neighborhood editor about this very topic before she hits up the mayor for some comments. Please LMK if there is anything you faithful readers & concerned citizens would like me to convey.
“Mayor McGinn hosted a public forum on public safety and nightlife issues in Belltown from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on August 10.
The mayor was joined by City Attorney Pete Holmes as well as Chief John Diaz and Captain Steve Brown of the Seattle Police Department.
The forum was an opportunity for Belltown residents and business owners to discuss their concerns directly with city leaders. ”
We got next right??? Right?
I called the mayors office to complain about the epidemic of violence in the Southend. Also want him to give us more officers!
I just got off the phone with the Mayor’s communication director. Apparently, the Mayor was at the SE Advisory council last night answering questions about the situation.
Apparently, the Mayor’s office feels that the peaks of violence can be attributed to….(wait for it)… Summer. Summer is the reason why we’re having all these issues and the SPD plans to put more police this weekend because of the upcoming events.
His closing remarks were. “We can always do more”.
How is it that a child not only has a gun in his possession with the intent to rob people but actually shoots himself and the mayor has nothing to say? For God’s sake, if you’re under the age of thirteen you have to have an adult supervising you at a wading pool or spray park! Well I guess he rode the bus so I suppose the mayor gives him a thumbs up.
Please convey to the Mayor that the SouthEnd will no longer tolerate being the piss-bucket for the entire city. Send your low-income housing somewhere else. Fix the poor and delapitaded infrastructure and make plans to help and increase presence of the under-staffed police department in our neighborhood. Lastly I’d be interested to hear his comments about the state of the public schools in and around the 98118 – it’s a F’n joke!

What does he plan to do? Maybe hire another conultant to look into the possibility of cancelling summer?
Oh man I can see it now.
Due to the increased violence during summer months, the City of Seattle is canceling summer in South Seattle.
This mayor has his head in the sand when it comes to Southeast Seattle. Let’s cancel him and his communications director. How many more people (and children) have to get shot before he takes a stand and does something? The 12 year old shot in Skyway did not happen in the “summer”. Give me a break!
We need a Mayor and a city council that really gives a s*hit about this community. Not one person has come forward to say, “Hey we need to do something about this”. When you have 10 year old kids running around with guns, that is a HUGE problem. Guns in general is a huge problem. I ride the bus, do I need to start packing my 9 just in case?
I guarantee if this happened anywhere else in Seattle, the Mayor would be all over it rubbing backs and wiping tears. But this is the valley aka “the jungle” so cares right?
The saddest thing is that there are quite a few council members who live in the South End.
“How is it that a child not only has a gun in his possession with the intent to rob people but actually shoots himself and the mayor has nothing to say? ”
Why, was McGinn the kids’ dad? Because otherwise, I want to hear from the ‘reproducers’ who squirt out these monsters.
So what do you want the police to do? They can’t even stop jaywalkers without having kids attacking them and James Bible throwing a fit.

Beacon Pub is said to be moving to Rainier & Orcas.
So what do we, as SE Seattle citizens, do to make our community better? Some of us have been working for months to produce this Sunday’s Othello Park International Music and Art Festival (Noon – 6). Seeing that Othello Park has long been a place for negative activity, the Othello Park Alliance has been putting on great summer events for five years, as well as working to take back this park and make it more beautiful for all who want to enjoy it with positive activity.
Be a part of wonderful, positive activity in SE SEattle. Join us for great music (mariachi, zaydeco, rock, Eritrean dance, Vietnamese lion dancers, hula and more..), hands-on art (clay, masks, jewelry), food (Jones BBQ!) and vendors. sign up with the Othello Park Alliance to make this park and our neighborhood safer and better!
Let me know when a Southeast Seattle office-type pool gets organized to choose the date of the Mayor McGinn recall event!
James K
Tasha, thanks for posting that phone number. It makes it so much easier to call when I don’t have to go searching for it myself.
I just called the mayor’s office and left an earful on the voice mail of someone named April. I expect the mayor to answer for this decision, and give me a reasonable plan on staffing the Southeast precinct adequately.
I encourage others to do the same. He will not change his decisions unless he is made uncomfortable. A lot of calls on this issue will get him squirming. Challenging questions will get him thinking. Demands for action will put him in a position of having to take action or look bad to a large number of constituents.
CALL AND CHALLENGE THE MAYOR ON PULLING OFFICERS FROM THE SOUTHEAST PRECINCT!!!!
And another thank you to the Southend Cop for informing all of us that this was happening!
@ C
Thank you for calling!!! If we all call that number demanding answers we will get the change we deserve. As soon as you call that number you will speak to someone. There is no message or automated answering.
Let’s do it big!!!!!
