It’s troubling that one of our mayor’s closest advisors was convicted of felony bank fraud and lying about his education. What’s even more amazing is that that mayor knew about this and didn’t think it was a bit deal. What’s startling is that this is the fellow he was turning to on advice on the budget. What is crazy is that this guy – a few years out of undergraduate – was the chief economist for King County. Uhhh……

Make that a big deal vs bit deal!

blurg. My house (38th ave in Genesee) was robbed this past week. Now i have to turn my place into a fortress to ease my wife’s concerns. Smash and grab, the sh*#s were probably in and out in less than five minutes. Neighbors: spend some time this weekend checking your home security.

I only hope that the next homeowner greets these scumbags with a face full of hot lead.

Karma’s a mighty bitch, boys. She will catch up with you soon enough.

I feel for you, CBO. My house was burgled back in Nov by this dirtbag and one of his last-nameless buddies: http://www.myspace.com/nutsosonuts . A few items were recovered, but I’m waiting to see if they can round up the rest. For what it’s worth, you probably won’t get hit again.

Two education cases end in favor of the plaintiffs.

The State isn’t adequately funding education.

The Seattle School Board was arbitrary and capricious in their adoption of the Discovering… series of math textbooks for high schools.

These are both excellent news.

A dog is the best thing you can have. As for the gun thing I know you are mad but having a gun wouldn’t make a difference because usually on a house lick you knock first to see if anyone is home if they are you ask something stupid, try to sell candy, whatever and leave. But a dog is best.

I think everyone on my block has a dog. Sure they bark and can be noisy, but they always let you know if someone’s walking down the street or coming to your door.

I myself use a dog for security when I am not home. She’s more sensitive than a motion sensor, and annoys the neighbors less and terrifies the potential burglar more, than an audible security alarm would.

Cheaper the way I figure it, too.

See you at the dog park! :-)

i was burgled in november in a quasi home invasion robbery WHILE SOMEONE WAS HOME. they caught the guy later but didn’t recover anything. I thought about going the fortress route, but there’s nothing left worth stealing and i’m not replacing any of it. we have a very loud dog too, and it just didn’t matter. if they want to rip you off, they’ll find a way. there’s nothing you can do except shoot them if you catch them. which is what i’ll do. these people are scumbags, and unfortunately, south seattle if full of them.

Oh man that’s awful, Cathy. So sorry. I agree about the dog/deterrent factor. I have two and that didn’t seem to stop anyone at my house, either.

11 Bien 02.06.10 at 5:16 pm

We have three cats, and they didn’t do a damn thing when we got broken into. Twice.

I do like the idea of not replacing those things. I also like the idea of using it as an excuse to replace them with the latest model.
I had two digital camera’s taken, and recently bought a new one that I’ve yet to open. And I hide it under the used underware in my laundry basket, thinking that it’s probably better than a gun safe.

Bien, don’t share your hideouts on the internet; now I can’t hide my prized jewels under my underwear in my laundry basket anymore because every literate thief in town is going to look there next time!

13 Bien 02.08.10 at 7:55 am

Sorry. I hope the literate thieves aren’t reading this thread.

I’ve been hiding my prized jewels in my underwear for years, unfortunately very few people have found them :(

14 cbo 02.08.10 at 10:21 am

Bien, you just cracked me up.

I already have a special needs dog (who we found terrified under the bed) and a baby that should be arriving any day now. Adding a big loud dog to mix isn’t really feasible at this time. We are going with flood lights, and a security system with a VERY LOUD alarm.

Purchase a bolted-down, locking, fireproof safe that installs into your wall between the supporting beams. Then place a couch or heavy piece of furniture in front of the safe so it is hard to find.

The get an alarm system like ADT installed with glass break sensors.

Did anyone notice the Times this morning? It seams the folks in Bellevue, including the Mayor Dr. Don Davidson believe the train would disrupt the traffic if it is on the street and it would be ugly if it were elevated. They insist it be in a tunnel.

I think I heard similar sentiment in Southeast Seattle during the planning phases of Sound Transit for SE Seattle. Why does Bellevue rate and we did not?

17 Bien 02.08.10 at 7:21 pm

He’s not really a doctor.
He’s a dentist, connected to the UW.

No wonder I haven’t had my teeth cleaned lately.

18 Fred Quarnstrom 02.08.10 at 9:14 pm

Don is a Doctor of Dental Surgery, DDS. He graduated in 1964 from the U of Washington dental school, we were in the same class. He has practiced dentistry since then often while serving on the Bellevue City Council or as the Mayor. While I disagree with his politics, I commend him for his service to his community.

I do not know what his being a dentist has to do with his serving as mayor, or deciding he preferred the light rail be placed in a tunnel, much less your response. I do not think he is connected to the U of W other then by graduation.

And Diers? The elder?

I don’t mean any disrespect, but I am truly afraid of you and yours.
If I’m wrong, I owe you a very big beer.
