Loved the sound of the kids sledding yesterday!

Interesting programming on KUOW this past Monday. This piece
Back of the Bus: Mass transit, race and inequality seemed to hit on a lot of the issues facing Rainier Valley.

If you lost all your endorsed checks and your checkbook near the Columbia City light rail station during this terrible weather, please e-mail me at amanda.kost at gmail.com

It’s like a cruel joke. I have off all week but I can’t get to my pub on cap hill and get drunk with all my loser friends.

Instead I’m gonna have to drink at home while my pregnant wife scowls at me.

I gotta get out of this house before I lose my mind.

“I gotta get out of this house before I lose my mind.”

Me, too, brother. Me, too.

my man went to the corner store, was walking back, slipped on the corner, fell flat on his back and two girls walked up, “hey mister need some help? we will help you up for a beer and some cigs.” Only in the hood….

@angel… wow, you can’t make this stuff up!

I’d like to join the “insider” crowd locally, and quietly promote socialism in the background. Can anyone point me to the right people I should be talking to, to help with this effort locally? I am also a Malthusian, so if anyone knows how can help with that effort, also, that would be most helpful. I’ve work in social services for the government. I need the proper communitarian training. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like most of Rainier is blocked right (9:20pm Sat) right now due to either a tree down or an accident.

10 Tom T 01.21.12 at 9:21 pm

That blocked by the Safeway by Genesee.

Wow, its a landslide – tree has hit a house and a car. Per SFD scanner they say that Rainier will be closed for hours!

Per Seattle PI:

Persons of interest’ in beating death identified
Suspects have not been arrested or called suspects in Vega death

Seattle police have identified three persons of interest in the beating of South Seattle hairdresser Danny Vega, who died in late November.

One of those persons of interest – a 22-year-old felon with a history of robbery – admitted to being one of the three people in a video released by police in late November. They say he also identified the two others persons of interest.

Surveillance images show one of three young men discarding a jacket near where Vega was beaten. Vega had his house keys, cell phone and black jacket stolen during the Nov. 15 robbery in the 4000 block of South Willow Street.

The 22-year-old who allegedly identified himself “did not deny the incident, just says he can’t remember,” Detective Frank Clark wrote in a case document.

SPD Investigating Suspects in Danny Vega Case
http://publicola.com/2012/01/23/police-investigating-gang-members-in-danny-vega-case/

And in other news from the SPD via the folks at the SSCPC, there was supposedly another robbery at the Othello Station last night sometime between 7:00 and 8:00pm

According to the PI (http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/Persons-of-interest-in-beating-death-identified-2677773.php):

“Police documents show multiple calls were made from Vega’s stolen cell phone to residences connected to the persons of interest…Police documents show that one of the calls he allegedly made from Vega’s stolen cell phone was to the Department of Social and Health Services updating his address.”

Is that just plain stupidity, or do the people who are terrorizing our streets feel that invincible? My spouse and I have this debate all of the time – I argue that most of them are NOT stupid. In some ways, though, stupidity would be easier to deal with than a system that has led to a sense that crime will be tolerated.

Sorry, Seadawg – did not notice that you’d already posted the link. I’m regretting my post, too, but do not see a delete function in this site. My frustration with what seems like a growing sense of invincibility in those that would bring fear into our neighborhoods has led me to speak in haste. “I blame society” (Duke to Otto)

16 Tom T 01.23.12 at 2:39 pm

Ditto Seadawg. @Kathy, the life of a Repo Man is always intense. Nice quote!

In light of the numerous robberies near Othello Station, I wish SPD could run a sting operation there where undercover officers can masquerade as a pedestrian carrying an open iphone, ipad, ipod etc. They had a very successful prostitution sting operation at a Rainier Ave. foot massage parlor last year where undercover police were “johns.”

I would just like to say that despite all the crime that’s happening, the RV still kicks a$$ a plenty when it comes to other neighborhoods.
