COLUMBIA CITY – The location that was – until recently – home to Verve Bistro & Wine Bar is available for lease.

The 1,775-square foot space sits at 3820 S. Ferdinand St. near Rainier Ave. S. From the flyer:

This highly efficient space includes a kitchen area with all necessary plumbing and electrical in place, bar seating, large curved banquette, bamboo floors, two wheelchair accessible bathrooms and air conditioning. Lease includes approximately 225 sf of outdoor patio area. Entire building has fully monitored fire sprinkler system for lower insurance rates. Water use is reduced as the rainwater coming off the roof is recycled to flush the toilets. Within a few blocks of all the shopping and services that Columbia City has to offer. Including the parking lot directly across the street ($1.00 for two hours!) there are 99 parking stalls on the same block. Location is one-half block to frequent bus service and six blocks to light rail.

No word yet on whether or not Verve owner Kate Bond will reopen elsewhere. Meanwhile, look for Rookies, the new family-friendly sports bar to open next door in the coming weeks.

What?? Why did Pete Lamb force them out, then? I hope it sits empty for a LONG LONG time.

Me Too.

And Family freindly and sports bar just don’t seem right in the same sentence.

I know. If Verve, a successful, pricey, established business couldn’t manage to pay the rent, how could a new restaurant do it?

Sad. Had a lot of good times there.

Well, there was a great deal of speculating why Mr.Lamb didn’t renew Verve’s lease. Now that the place is empty, the ill will expressed towards Mr Lamb has been realized. The only one’s hurt here is our beloved Columbia City. Tenants should pay their obligations, just like us homeowners. Hope he finds a good tenant that adds value to our community.

Surfer1, did Verve not pay their bills? If so, then I guess it’s on them. On the other hand, if Lamb raised the rent on them or something like that… adding to the speculation, I heard there were issues with the kitchen that caused this arrangement to fail.

Verve did have the best burger in Columbia City, hands down.

Loved Verve. Will never know what really happened but it’s still our loss. Right or wrong……

@ Mark B

I’m so with you on that. family friendly bar?? Who does that? That’s like an all ages gentleman’s club. It doesn’t make sense. I hate to be a total player hater, but isn’t there enough family friendly places in Columbia City?

@T3
How long do you think they will be open before a fight happens due to someone having a few drinks watching their team and gets pissed and heaven forbid, swears (remember this is a sports bar) and someone else decides to pipe up because he doesn’t want his kid to hear that kind of language.

You know it is going to happen.

I give it a week and a half. (or maybe the 1st Hawks game)

I’m just waiting for the baby powder to be mistaken for crack then it’s really over!!!

You know you gotta rock that sh*t up first. They might steal the baby powder though.

I have a question though.
Will the baby powder be for a pool table or a changing table?

Pete Lamb screwed up. HE is going to lose loads of money because no one is going to rent this space for a VERY LONG time. Wait and see.

If he was interested in making money, that would have been a win for the community. Obviously he’s not interested.

Must be so well off he can afford to squander loads of money at the detriment of the community.

So, what kind of rent do they want for the place? How much is insurance? Inquiring minds want to know! (but are too lazy to call the owner and find out)

@Matt

Verve did pay their bills. They were in fact very surprised that the lease was not renewed. The issue with the kitchen as I understood it, is that there was no ventilation system and Lamb was unwilling to install one, so all food had to be made on a small self contained unit. Verve was even interested in moving into the Kallaloo space at one point (now Rookies) but Lamb was not interested in that either.

I am astounded that Verve’s lease would not be renewed without a new leasee in line. Seems like a bad decision for the the community, let alone buiness wise. Must be something we are not privy to…

And although a family friendly sports bar seems a little contradictory why not support a local buisiness until you decide it doesn’t personally work for you based on experience?
