MT. BAKER – Kick off the holiday season with the Mount Baker Home Tour and Arts & Crafts Fair on Sat., Dec. 3, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Mount Baker Community Clubhouse (2811 Mt. Rainer Dr. S.).

This community fundraising event offers the public a rare opportunity to view the interiors of just a few of the many unique homes that exemplify the variety of architectural styles found in the Mount Baker neighborhood.

The tour begins at the historic Mount Baker Community Clubhouse at 2811 Mt. Rainier Drive South, and will include:

  • A mid-century modern 4,000 square foot family home, extensively remodeled to emit a calm, light-infused presence
  • A 1906 classic filled with wood trim, art, and a floor plan that continues to evolve through renovations spanning 28 years
  • An original home design that uses resources efficiently, is purposeful in its use of material, light and space, and sustains the way one young family lives, works, and plays.

Franklin High School is the selected public space on this year’s tour. Celebrating its 100th anniversary, the Beaux-Arts style building sits majestically on the hill, adorned with architectural gems including coffered ceilings, terra cotta details, a vintage brass clock, and a pipe organ! Students will highlight features and milestones from the building’s storied past and introduce you to the modern-day Franklin High School.

The first and last stop of the tour at the Mount Baker Clubhouse is the Arts & Crafts Fair featuring 15 local artists and offering the perfect opportunity for some holiday shopping. Complimentary tea, coffee, and cookies will also be served.

Tour tickets may be purchased in advance for $25 through brownpapertickets.com or at Urban Vines located at 3605 South McClellan Street.  Discounted $20 tickets are available for seniors 65+. Tickets will also be sold the day of the event at the Mount Baker Community Clubhouse for $30.

The Home Tour is the single largest funding source for the wide array of programs and events sponsored by the Mount Baker Community Club such as Day in the Park and the Harvest the Arts series.  It also supports the ongoing maintenance of the Clubhouse that plays host to free workshops, lectures, and socials throughout the year.
