Less than one year after it’s opening, Mezzaluna Bistro closed last Sunday. According to owner Lauren Jackowiec, there were several reasons for closing which include lackluster business and owners wanting to go their separate ways.  Mezzaluna was located where Casuelita’s used to be on Judkins street.

“It was just a bit of bad timing on our part, financially and personally,” she said.

Being the only restaurant in a multi-block area has never been a surefire recipe for success. Furthermore, certain buildings seem cursed regarding restaurants that go in them. This may be one of those.

Casuelita’s has been able to build a great business as Island Soul in Columbia City, which I’m pretty happy to see.

Island Soul does a good brunch on the weekends.

If you like Island food, don’t miss the probably barely hanging on Eloi further down Rainier, across from Walgreen’s.

Should be a line, but any Jerk can get in easily, mon.
