Teens from around Seattle will gather at 1 p.m. this Sat., Jan. 16, to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Seattle park that bears his name (2200 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way). At 1:45 p.m., the march will leave the park and head up Martin Luther King, Jr. Way to South Jackson Street to 23rd Avenue and on to the Garfield Teen Life Center at 428 23rd Avenue.
The public is invited to watch from along the march route.
Participating teens will hear a motivational speaker and have a chance to put their own dreams on paper. All the “dreams” will be woven together onto a large loom for display throughout February, Black History Month, at Seattle Parks and Recreation community centers. Participating teens and volunteers will also receive a free t-shirt and meal.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Teen March is presented by Seattle Parks and Recreation. For more information about the event, please call Christine Lesh at 206-684-9270, or e-mail her at Christine.lesh@seattle.gov.
