Rainier Valley activists, community volunteers and business owners are invited to attend Publicity 101, a free workshop designed to help you generate media attention for your issues, concerns, business or nonprofit organization in a rapidly changing media landscape.
Securing free media exposure known as “publicity”, as opposed to its more expensive and less-effective cousin known as “advertising” isn’t magic. It just requires having a good story, packaging that story appropriately, and getting it to the right journalists at the right media outlets.
Obtain useful, how-to information that you can use immediately!
Hosted by the Hillman City Business Association with support from Seattle’s Office of Economic Development, the Rainier Valley Post, DESC, Rainier Chamber of Commerce and Kawali Grill Thur., March 26, from 3 to 6 pm at Rainier House (5270 Rainier Ave. S.).
For more information, or to RSVP, please contact HCBA President Denise Gloster.

Amber,
Thank you for all your help and support! RVP is great for the Valley and HCBA appreciates our partnership with you!
We’ve been planning this training for the community for more than six months and have about 27 people registered to attend. Muir Relations will be running the training — and let me tell you, Jeanne Muir and Diane Duthweiler are great! Funny, intelligent, helpful, compassionate, and caring. If your attending expect to learn something valuable and useful about contacting and communicating with media, and expect to laugh. At HCBA we made a good move when we hooked up with them.
Though it has been a little difficult to complete, this event is the culmination of the use of our $9,200 Office of Economic Development Grant from 2008, which is/was all about promoting the Hillman City business district.
After learning a little about how to put a press release together and other components of a media toolkit — news release, media distribution list, etc — attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of press/news professsionals. These professionals include Amber Campbell/RVP (hey that’s you), Debera Harrell, and Mike Dillion with a tips sheet provided to us by Essex Porter of KIRO.
So thanks again and see you there!
DG
