Latte-Loving Parents/Business People Have No Fear; Kwik Cup Espresso Is Here!

Your friendly neighborhood editor/mom/latte junkie is thrilled to report that there’s a new kid friendly coffeehouse in the ‘hood, which makes the ten-minute trek up to My Skankhouse on Madison a big fat waste of time, unless, of course, you like watered-down coffee and stale scones served by rude baristas who don’t bother trying to hide how repulsed they are by you and your little darlings. In which case, you just go ahead and eat your heart out up there, north of I-90.

As for the rest of you, I suggest that you make your way over to Kwik Cup Espresso on Othello, across from the Safeway and just west of MLK Jr. Way, pronto.

A little background… I showed up there last Thursday for the first time ever (embarrassing since we live just a few blocks away) to meet a fairly well-known community leader whose identity I won’t reveal since he STOOD ME UP! (You know who you are and you owe me a large not-so-sweet Carmelita for my time, brother.)

Which turned out more than ok, since there I found owner Allen Jefferson, helping one of his regulars, Sotheath Kim, work out some technical issues on a laptop among a super clean and comfy atmosphere, a lovely little play corner well-stocked with toys for the under-five set and – perhaps most rewarding – the latest Time, People and Entertainment Weekly right there for the reading.

And not December ’07 either. These babies were all June ’08, and at $3, $4 and sometimes even $5 a rag, well I don’t have to tell you what a sweet deal that is. Especially when I’m sucking on one of Kwik Kup’s iced espresso drinks while the kids are pleasantly out of my face for five minutes.

Oh, and did I mention that Kwik Cup offers free wi-fi and Allen’s a computer whiz who is more than happy to help you connect?

So there is literally NO earthly reason why you shouldn’t stop by soon for something yummy to drink and a healthy dose of Allen’s community building spirit. You won’t be sorry. Tell him and Bregeita The Post sent you.

We’re not the only ones who like Kwik Cup, they’ve already got four great Yelp reviews and a favorable article in the Beacon Hill News/South District Journal.

Kwik Cups is located at 3815 S. Othello and is open Monday through Friday; 6 am to 3 pm and Saturdays and Sundays; 9 am to 5 pm. Photos/do communications, inc.

I’m SO glad to read about this place. I hate My Stankhouse and am desperate for alternatives.
