Starting today, Rainier Valley neighbors of all ages are invited to join Hillman City Business Association (HCBA) for the Hillman City Heart Hunt – a scavenger hunt organized by neighborhood business owners as a way to draw attention to the up-and-coming neighborhood in “the Heart of the Rainier Valley”.
Handmade hearts created by local students have been hidden throughout Hillman City, and clues will be revealed right here at the Rainier Valley Post until Sat., Feb. 13, when neighbors who find the hearts can bring them to HCBA’s fourth annual Town Hall, where they’ll double as raffle tickets to trade for prizes donated by community businesses.
“We hope that couples seeking a fun and romantic activity will take a stroll and look for hearts,” said HCBA president Denise Gloster. “And we expect parents and children will find it an exciting romp around the neighborhood.”
“Those who find the hearts should bring them to our Town Hall meeting where they will double as raffle tickets to win prizes donated by local businesses,”continues Gloster. “We hope the heart hunt will help people in the neighborhood get to know each other AND give them added reason to attend our Town Hall.”
“Town Hall is a time to review our accomplishments and gather input on work for the future. It’s also a fun, casual way to build relationships and share ideas for keeping our neighborhood vital, strong and unified,” says Brian Lettich, HCBA’s vice president. “The first thing we do is mingle and munch; then we’ll announce our Heritage Neighbor Awards. We give the awards each year to people who make Hillman City a better place to live and work.”
Gloster adds, “After that, we’ll hold the heart raffle and then we will conduct a short survey and open the floor to anyone who would like to speak and help us determine priorities for the Business Association in the coming year.” Lettich continues, “Over HCBA’s four year existence, based on what we heard at our town halls, we increased the number of free, family-friendly activities that we sponsor and worked to bring streetscape improvements to the business district. Every year we learn of new ways to bring our community together, so I am guessing we will be encouraged to keep up the good work!”
