Such a tragedy and a huge loss for the community. My condolences to his family. The streets are so much scarier than they were when I first moved to Seattle and the Southend in 1993.
It would be helpful if the local media/police could give us a more detailed description than “three young men.” Could these be the same three young men who brutally beat and robbed a teen boy walking home from the Columbia City Light Rail station a few weeks back?
I hate holding every trio of young men I see in suspicion. Fear can be so crippling and destructive.

Agreed. This insistence on political correctness in reporting criminal activity serves only to allow the thugs to remain free, and these tragedies to continue.

So: ‘young’? Is that 16-ish? 20-something? Skin color? Hair style? Clothing? Height? Language(s)? What other particulars are the police using in their own search?

Without details how can the general public possibly be of help?

While a longshot, there was an attack by three men/youth in the CD last Friday at 10 pm.

SSC – can you help the community out here with a description? My guess is that the SPD knows who the perps are and is finding the right time to pick them up. If that’s the cause I understand why the description is very vague.

Here’s the link on the CD attack:

The initial reports on KOMO described the attackers as being “three, black teens; approximately 18 years old.”
Not much to go on, but certainly better than no details at all.

From Tom T’s link.

“He stated that he turned to speak to the suspects when one of the men produced a handgun and demaned his bag. The victim pulled a hammer out of his bag and held it high in an effort to intimidate the suspects. According to the victim, the suspects repeated their demand and the victim charged toward the suspects.”

Thor is lucky to be alive.

@Bangor: IMO, that description is about as helpful as “three white teens.” Oh, wait, no one would ever say that.

Editor, I’m not sure what you mean that “no one would ever say that.” Suspects are described by their race all the time. I’ve read robbery suspects described as “Caucasian” or “Asian” or “Light-skinned”. Just like I’ve read descriptions like “heavyset” or “over 6′ tall”. Just a way to give a description. ?

@SusanH: I’m sorry, I should have clarified that race alone, with no other details, is not a useful description. That said, it seems far more common for race to be used as the only descriptor when the subject is of color. I don’t think I’ve ever seen race used by itself when the subject is Caucasian.
