Disabled man attacked, robbed of $1 at notorious Rainier Beach bus stop (Seattle Times, RVP News Partner):
A disabled man who was waiting for a bus in South Seattle on Friday was attacked by three teens who slammed his head against a wall and punched him in the face and chest. According to a witness, one of the teens yelled, “That’s how we do it in the South End” as the three fled.
The victim, who was unable to communicate verbally with officers, gave paramedics a “thumbs up” when he was examined to indicate he was OK and did not require hospitalization, according to a Seattle police report. The report did not specify the man’s disability. Read more.
Burglar caught red-handed inside Mt. Baker business (SPD):
On March 3rd, just a few minutes past midnight, South Precinct officers responded to a burglary alarm call at a gas station in the 2800 Block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South. The alarm monitoring company reported to police that they could hear glass breaking and movement inside the business. Officers arrived quickly and observed a man inside the business moving around in the rear of the store. He was carrying a large white bag. The front window of the business was broken, and a ladder was through the opening. Additional officers arrived and contained the building.
Officers called inside the building but the suspect refused to answer. An employee of the business arrived with keys, and officers entered the building. There they located the suspect, a 45-year old man, hiding in the crawlspace. He was taken into custody. Officers searched the rest of the store for additional suspects, but it appears this man was the only burglar. The suspect had bagged approximately $1,000 worth of cigarettes and food inside his bag. He was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary.

“That’s how we do it in the Southend” WTF? Really?
How can anyone with a shred of self respect/decency pull some s@#t like that to someone who is disabled/handicapped?
Something needs to happen.
I agree – I am tired of these teenagers running around hurting people. Question is – what do we as a community do? Start our own patrol…..
HBW – you have a great point about community patrol. What about video cameras and better lighting? Call the NYC guardian angels to patrol our bus stops!
