Thousands of Rainier Valley residents are expected to turn out for this weekend’s first ever Rainier Valley Culture Fest Weekend – a two-day celebration of Seattle’s most diverse community that will include the 19th annual Rainier Valley Heritage Parade on Sat., Aug. 20, and the fifth annual Othello Park International Music and Arts Festival on Sun., Aug. 21.

Saturday’s Heritage Parade and Summer Streets Party – scheduled to start promptly at 11 am on Rainier Ave. S. in Columbia City – will feature nearly 70 entries. Afterwards, the arterial will remain closed to traffic between S. Brandon St. and S. Alaska St. until 3 pm while attendees play in the street and enjoy live music on two stages, an urban chicken petting zoo, small bites from local restaurants, a 98118′s Got Talent Show, a slow bike race, Seattle’s largest canned food pyramid (bring a can to donate!) and much more.

On Sunday, the 5th annual Othello Park International Music & Art Festival – scheduled for noon to 6 pm in Othello Park, will present two of Seattle’s great musical talents – Michael Powers and Josie Howell – as well as an Arts Creation Station, vendor booths featuring local artists and a wide array of food from local restaurants.

Othello Park is located just one block east of the intersection of Othello Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way and the Othello Central Link Station.

Scoopfest will go on, the details were finalized only yesterday, but here are the details:
Full Tilt’s parking lot will also be busy the day of the heritage festival, teaming up with other great local ice cream makers in giving away ice cream to the crowd, in hopes of generating funds for the Rainier Valley Food Bank. Ice cream will be free for kids, $2. for adults, buy a ticket at the Food Bank table, and turn it in at any ice cream booth. 12-3pm, sponsored by Full Tilt Ice Cream, Snoqualmie Ice Cream, and Bluebird Ice Cream. In the parking lot, Washington’s biggest canned food pyramid (bring donations!!), DJ Soul1, DJ Squirrel, and DJ Northern Soul. The Makery art’s lab, and fire jugglers/entertainments in the parking lot, and a dunk tank (please invite anyone you can think of that would sit in the tank and make lots of money for the Food Bank). Thanks for putting out the word for us

I kind of want to see Michael Powers, I hope they do not have power problems like a year or 2 ago, the band would play and the power would go off every couple of minutes.
