Your RVP is thrilled to welcome our newest sponsor, The Bourbon at Columbia City Theater located at 4916 Rainier Avenue South in Columbia City:

In the heart of the nation’s most diverse area code, you will find one of Seattle’s most diverse bourbon selections. The Bourbon serves 27 varieties of our namesake liquor, and they are the stars of our seven pre-Prohibition specialty cocktails, drinks that bring a Southern sophistication and hospitality to Columbia City.

The Bourbon is a haven for whiskey drinkers of all tastes and budgets. From the working man’s Old Crow to the $18-a-pour Hudson Baby Bourbon, it’s a whiskey drinker’s paradise. The Seattle Weekly’s Whiskey Wednesday found “the bar’s swath of cocktails ranges admirably from super-sweet to a bitter kick in the mouth,” naming The Commodore “a must-have after-dinner cocktail.” If Bourbon’s not to your taste, the bar has a unique selection of other liquors and beers. We’re as happy to serve you a Hamm’s as we are a speciality cocktail, and both will come from an expert bartender with a smile.

  • Monday – All-Day Happy Hour and DJ 3J Million spinning Old School Reggae and Soul (9pm on)
  • Tuesday – Miracle Flo with DJ Glory B spinning Downtempo and World Beat (9pm on)
  • Wednesday – Karaoke
  • Thursday – Thursday Night Bounce with Miss Broadway spinning Old School Funk & Soul  (9pm on)
  • Friday – Shows on the Main Stage
  • Saturday – Shows on the Main Stage
  • Sunday – Free Concerts in The Bourbon at 9pm

And it’s not just our whiskey selection that’s diverse. On any given night of the week there’s something different happening at The Bourbon and Columbia City Theater.

Seven days a week we serve the nation’s best independent pizza (as proclaimed by Pizza Today), offering Tutta Bella’s award-winning full menu. Happy Hour runs twice a night Sunday through Thursday from 4pm-7pm and 11pm-1am. And on Fridays and Saturdays we host some of Seattle’s best musicians in Washington State’s oldest vaudeville theater. You can check out the full calendar of events here.

Your RVP is proud to welcome our newest sponsor, All Saints Episcopal Church located at 5150 Cloverdale Place S. in Rainier Beach:

Near the intersection of Wabash and Cloverdale Place sit six large raised beds containing all kinds of vegetables booming along in the summer sun. If you’ve wondered who is growing all that the answer is All Saints Episcopal Church.

The congregation, which has served the Rainier Valley since 1905, is a site for a community garden. The church also houses a before and after school program called Empowering Youth and Families Ministries (Charlett Shoecraft, director) as well a local Share shelter.

All Saints is a small church that does big service to a community beyond its doors and its membership. This vibrant, multi-cultural congregation is committed to being a community that is an instrument for reconciliation, a haven for the hurting and a catalyst for social, political and economic justice.

In order to do that work this open and inclusive Episcopal parish works with other congregations, most notable Seattle International Christian Fellowship (Richard and Susan Thompson, pastors) with whom it shares its facilities and a food bank.

All Saints has recently welcomed a pair of new priests to its life: the Rev. Carla Robinson and the Rev. Richard Younge. Together these two African-American priests bring both experience and new energy to a place that already has a rich history of connecting Anglican spirituality with the Northwest urban experience.

“We are a church where tradition and creativity are meeting,” says Rev. Robinson. “Something new is being born here and we are excited to share it anyone and everyone. Come on down and check us out. You might be surprised. We’re here every Sunday at 10am.”

Don’t miss the congregation’s Annual Salmon Dinner and Silent Auction on Sat., Sept. 11, at 5:30 pm. Dinner features salmon caught by local fishers, outdoor dining, live music; $20/person. More info: 721-0285 or email allsaints@allsaints-seattle.org.

Home sales around Western and Central Washington remained sluggish with pending sales lagging year-ago levels, but not all the numbers were down.” More.

Time to Refinance? Jumbo Mortgage Rates Plunge: Nearly two years after the credit crunch virtually froze mortgage markets, high-end borrowers are seeing some relief: Rates for “jumbo” mortgages on pricier homes are at their lowest since 2003. More.

Extend and Pretend? To Fix Sour Property Deals, Lenders ‘Extend and Pretend’. Some banks have a special technique for dealing with business borrowers who can’t repay loans coming due: Give them more time, hoping things improve and they can repay later. Banks call it a wise strategy. Skeptics call it “extend and pretend.” More.
