In case you’re wondering what all the Rainier Beach fuss is about, according to Seattle Police Department’s (SPD) South Precinct, that’s a media helicopter hovering – not King County’s Guardian One.
It seems there’s been “some type of home invasion burglary” at 48th Avenue South and South Fletcher in Rainier Beach, which is less than a mile from the three homes that were burglarized in broad daylight Tuesday on 57th Avenue South between South Fletcher and South Roxbury.

This is getting insane.
This is slightly off topic but does anyone know what was going on on Wolcott Ave S in Rainier Beach last night at 1am? The SPD surrounded a house and told them via megaphone to come out with their hands up, which they did. Police in full body armour with guns etc then searched the house.
This is the same block in which 9 or 10 shots were fired a couple weeks ago (see past RVP post). It was exciting in a “just like on TV!” kind of way but obviously also concerning.
Faaantastic.
This almost makes me hope I DO get laid off so I can stay home and deter my house from being burglarized.
Security alarm + big dog inside the house = no break-ins in two years.
Maybe if I can get a recording of frigidpony’s barking dog.
One of my neighbors is so fed up he brought over legal documentation explaining that citizens have the right to arrest criminals they witness committing crimes. He was pretty upset and serious about the idea……..I have to admit, it has got me thinking.
SSSL
Citizen’s arrest is a good idea, pending that you witness the crime and the one committing said crime. If it occurred enough, it would send a message not only to the criminals that we aren’t going to take it, but also to the police and the local government…if you aren’t going to do the job we elected you to do and that you are paid to do, then we will take matters into our own hands.
Just remember, if the criminal’s party witnesses you taking charge, you may become a target yourself.
No security alarm + no animals in the home = same result for 5 years. Just saying.
The only people I have ever met in this neighborhood who have problems with burglars are people who do not have home security systems. The burglars will always pick the easy targets over the difficult ones.
