Seattle Parks and Recreation recently announced that – after six years of planning, fundraising and intense community effort – the Mt. Baker neighborhood is excited to celebrate the dedication of its newest open space on Fri., March 20, from 6 – 8 pm.
Mt. Baker Ridge Viewpoint Park features a spectacular panoramic view of Beacon Hill, downtown Seattle, Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains, and of course, the sunset.
The spring equinox park dedication will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, music and light refreshments. The official program will begin at 6:45 pm to allow for a sunset finale through one of the seven stones that mark the sunset location on the horizon during different seasons. According to the City:
Acquired by Parks in 2003, this park was conceived as an instrument for marking the arc of the sun through the seasons. The metal and concrete platform extending out from the sidewalk provide a unique and beautiful panoramic view that includes the mountains, Elliott Bay and the sunset over the city. The design evolved in four community workshops. Nate Cormier and Mark Johnson of Jones & Jones Architects designed the park.
Project funding represents a collaborative effort between public and private funding. The Pro Parks Levy contributed to both the acquisition and the development of the park. Approved by Seattle voters in 2000, the $198.2 million Pro Parks Levy funds more than 100 projects throughout the city over eight years. Projects include improvements to athletic fields, playgrounds, trails and community centers and parks. Funding also increases green spaces, support Zoo programs and enhance park maintenance.

There is a great little Italian restaurante just 200 ft. south of here.
It has the same view, if you can get to those tables. And good food & service. Breakfast, even.
One of those places that will be there for years. Check it out.
