With development of Othello Station North – 350 apartment homes and 18,000-square foot of retail space – on hold due to the economy, the owners of the property located on the northeast corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Way and South Othello Street are turning the Citadel building into an indoor and outdoor community marketplace.
The Othello International Bazaar – housed in the Citadel at 4200 South Othello Street directly from the Othello Station light rail station – will showcase a mix of fresh produce, flowers, local art, crafts, clothes, spices, prepared foods and other goods that reflect the many local cultures found in the Rainier Valley.
“We believe that an international market will help create a point of differentiation for the neighborhood and foster a sense of local ownership and pride,” said Steve Rauf, CEO of property owner Othello Partners. “We see the Othello Market as a way to build and enhance social capital and draw people together. The market will help create and define a sense of place with an authentic opportunity to celebrate the global nature of the neighborhood!”
Regional vendors are invited to open stalls within the market to sell their goods to the public. For more information on renting a stall, email srauf@othellopartners.com or call (206) 722-1010.
